Officiants’(Kapuralas) Pattini Costumes

These preside over the ceremonies at Pattini Ceremonies. At larger ceremonies, such as the Devol Madua there is also an assistant. They wear mainly white sarongs and sari blouses with white head cloths. At different stages of the ceremony they will wrap a “shawl pf Pattini” around their shoulders. The different coloured scarves are used in the ceremonies to heal and protect the community or family for whom the Pattini Ceremony is being held.

(See Sections on “Pattini Ceremonies” for fuller details.)
